Her senior season, Grubbs totaled 564 assists, 170 kills and 100 digs.

Miranda has been an outstanding Middle Blocker for the Rice Owls. The  6’ 1” middle is a three year letter winner at Rice and a force in the middle of the net.  Last year she totaled a season-high 11 points and nine kills in the Owls win over Sam Houston State and had seven kills and a season-high five blocks against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  Maranda has earned C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll twice and received the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal.  While at Bellaire, Miranda was named First Team All-District three times while she helped Bellaire to four straight district titles. As a senior, she was recognized by Prep-volleyball as a Senior Ace and a All-Texas Team Honorable Mention.  Miranda graduated from Bellaire an AP Scholar with distinction.

Go Cards!

Clear Lake

posted Aug 30, 2016, 10:52 AM by Bellaire Volleyball   [ updated Jun 22, 2017, 10:54 AM ]

A after suffering sweeping losses to Clear Springs and a heartbreaker to St Agnes, the Lady Cardinals could use the healing which comes from a good win.

And our Cardinals really needed a little healing potion.

Fresh off a win over Northland Christian and a solid performance in the Magnolia Tournament, the Falcons of Clear Lake had traveled into The Nest last Tuesday with the idea to continue their winning ways: which turned out to be just what the doctor ordered for Bellaire.

As usual, the freshmen were up first.  Coach Tomlinson’s Cardinal “Chicks” just keep getting better and better.  Undiscouraged after dropping the first set, these freshmen came back to win the match  (22-25, 25-21, 25-17); setting up the home court advantage for the JV match.  Coach Martin’s JV squad took the positive energy to the next level and “went off” on the Falcons; sweeping Clear Lake in two sets (25-19. 25-12).  The Lady Cards had major contributions from Alyss Kerl, Toni Lott, Sandy Song and Erin Eby.  Bellaire fans rocked The Nest as the JV team walked off the court.

The tone was set for the varsity who had limped out of the Spring Branch ISD tournament with several key players’ sitting out the final matches; nursing sprains, pulls and bruises. Clear Lake also had their share of injuries going without kill leader, Katya Silvera.  Like Bellaire High, Clear Lake has a strong volleyball tradition and a deep team of highly skilled players.  Both teams would be without their normal complement of starters; but, filled with confidence about their ability to win.

The Cardinals got off to a shaky start. Halfway through the first set, seniors Maya Evans and Evony Nelson entered the match and provided a surge of offensive firepower.  With solid serve receive and defense from senior Ella Hawes delivered the ball (14 diggs, 3 aces) to Megan Evans; who picked an chose a an array of air attack weapons.  The evening’s highlight film would be filled with Armyni Perales.  Recently moved from OH to middle, Perales has found a home where delivered 6 kills with great athleticism.  Maya Evans, now playing as an outside hitter, delivered 7 convincing kills.   Codi Fillmore was among the top producers from the right side with 6 kills on the night.  The Lady Cardinal varsity squad took care of the Falcons from Clear Lake in 4 sets (25-17 25-13, 23-25, 25-18).

Congratulations Lady Cardinals for defending The Nest against the Clear Lake Falcons.

Aldine ISD Freshmen A Tournament

posted Aug 25, 2016, 10:47 AM by Bellaire Volleyball   [ updated Jun 22, 2017, 10:47 AM ]

Bellaire’s Freshmen team entered their first tournament of the 2016 season seeded at the bottom of the 4th pool. This translates into the 13th overall seed in the 16 team Aldine Freshmen A Team Tournament.

Thursday night our  Cardinal Chicks swept every team in their pool, dropping Aldine, Eisenhower and the pool top seed Alief Taylor.  This performance landed  Bellaire into the tournament’s Gold Bracket.

Saturday, “The Chicks” dismissed Aldine Davis (25-12
25-15) to advanced from the first round and into the semi-finals.  The Nimitz High Gym was filled with Cougar Pride as our Lady Cardinals faced off against the tournament host team.

There was tremendous support for the Nimitz Cougars; creating the most difficult venue The Chicks have dealt with so far this season. Our young Cardinals needed only two sets to sweep the Nimitz Cougars aside (25-20, 25-13) and earn entry into the Championship match.

In the tournament Championship against Alvin, the Lady Cardinals got all they could handle from a very good Lady Yellowjacket squad.  It took three sets (25-16, 21-25, 25-22) for the Lady Cards to hand Coach Kelli Tomlinson her first tournament championship as Belliare’s Freshman Coach.

Coach Tomlinson said after the tournament; “We still missed a few too many serves when it counted, but we played better than Thursday!  For the most part, I think our defense and communication was a strength. We hustled and didn't let many balls hit the floor without some sort of attempt.”

Congratulations Chicks!
