Varsity (25-10, 25-14, 25-8)

After Friday night, the Lady Cardinals are firmly in the driver seat in district 20-6A.  The Varsity Cardinal team took down Westside in dominate fashion sweeping the wolves in straight sets.  Twitter lit up after the game.  The win was Bellaire's 5th in district play and 7th consecutive 3 set sweep going back to August 25th when the Cards walked out of the Clear Lake gym with a 3-1 match win.   More impressively, it was the 21st consecutive sweep in a district going back to the final district competition of 2013 when the Cardinals dropped not only a set but the match to....you guessed it....Westside.

The Lady Cardinals pounded the Westside Wolves Friday night.  Maya Evans led the team with 10 kills, hitting a ridiculous 667 and led the team in digs with 10.  Sundarah Chinn followed with 9 kills of her own and collected a team high 6 aces.  Newly minted National Merit Semi-Finalist, Lauren Li, had a career night serving 2 aces, getting a block, a dig and putting 7 kills down with an insane 636 hitting percentage.  Jade Robinson and Travana Matthews each contributed 5 kills.  Overall leader in aces this season, Libero Ella Hawes, led the team with 11 service receives, tallied 9 digs and launched 3 aces of her own.  Everyone in a varsity uniform made it to the floor.  It was a great opportunity to build up needed experience as the Bellaire Cardinals rolled the Wolves.

JV (23-25, 25-21, 25-15)

It took three sets for the JV team to finish off the Westside Wolves.  Erin Eby defended the back row with 8 digs, while Gianna added 6 digs.  The setters had big nights with Mikaela Medina dishing out 6 assists and finding the floor with 5 aces.  El Shaw was had another all-around impact night distributing the ball with 8 assists, and putting down 5 aces and 4 kills.  On the outside Toni Lott put down 3 kills and put up 8 digs.  The Cardinals continued to find success through the middle of the court with Annika Bohmann and Lauren Donovan each delivering 5 kills.  After the game, Coach Martin said; "We played well enough to win; but, we continue to have areas which need better execution."  "This is very good group; but, we can be better."

Freshmen (25-20, 23-25, 11-15)

Coach Tomlinson saw her perfect district record come to an end Friday night.  The Chicks dropped their first district match of the season and gave Coach Tomlinson her first district match loss as a coach.  Coach Tomlinson's district win streak ends at 18.  The freshman came out short handed due to injury; but, competed well in taking the first set where Jada Lanier dropped 5 aces and put down 3 kills.  In the second match, the freshmen faltered with inconsistent execution and unforced errors.  The Chicks play exciting volleyball with close matches and absence of Sandy Song seem to be a missing piece in winning the second set.  Chancellor Deal leveled 3 aces, Alyss Kerl and Sydney Wallace both delivered 3 kills.  In the deciding set, the freshmen could not shake off the errors and find more consistent execution and passing.  The Chicks dropped their first district match of the season.
