The Lady Cardinal freshmen and JV teams traveled to Reagan High School on Tuesday night to play their first game in a week; while the Varsity team met the Lady Bulldogs at the Pavilion.  In each competition, the Lady Cardinals put down the Bulldogs from Reagan High School; needing only the minimum sets required.

FRESHMEN
To start the evening’s competition, Bellaire’s freshmen got off to a very sluggish start in the first set, trading point for point with the freshmen Bulldogs.   With a week off, the lack of playing time definitely showed.  But, with a couple of kills from Rein Dolormente and Annika Bohmann coupled with precise serving from Mikaela Medina and Sydney Sizemore, the Lady Cardinal freshmen captured the momentum and put their game on track to crush the Bulldogs 25-9 in the first set.  Coach Tomlinson later commented on the first set turnaround; "The girls played good defense and proved they were ready for any ball that came their way."  The second set started much like the first; trading points back and forth.  A couple of Cardinal miscommunication errors and missed serves offered the Reagan Bulldogs hope to capture the competition.  And just like the first set, the Cardinals stepped up their attack and won the second set (25-11) in dominate fashion.  Aggressive tipping by Jaylynn Nunn, some well-placed swings by Toni Lott and a nice string of tough serves by Aryel Odomes put down the Bulldogs.  The freshmen Cardinals set the standard for the evening against Reagan; executing a minimum 2-set match victory.

JV
The Bulldog's home confines provided little comfort to Reagan's JV team; like the freshmen, the visiting JV Cardinals needed only two sets to handily finish the Bulldogs (25-10, 25-6).  Rachel Nolte dispensed 10 service aces and delivered 11 assists to a skilled brigade of attacking Cardinals.  In the barrage of kills, Aryell Battles emerged to led the team with 5; while Paige Jackson, Lilly Kirkland and Emily Uriah complemented the onslaught with 4 kills of their own.  On the occasions when Reagan returned balls, the defense of Makenzie McDonald or Caroline Craft readily upped balls to reload the Cardinal's offensive attack.  The relentless hitting and sharp defense subdued any fight the Bulldogs could muster; as the Lady Cardinals logged another district win.

VARSITY
In the Varsity competition, the Cardinals traveled north to the Pavilion to meet the Reagan Bulldogs.  This meeting ended the same way as prior competitions against Reagan's Fighting Bulldogs; a district win for the Cardinals in the minimum sets needed (25-10, 25-8, 25-4).  A highlight of this match was the strong serving by Lauren Li who had nice runs to end the second and third sets.  Although it was a low scoring affair for the Bulldogs, Coach Clarke was able to get just about all her Cardinals into the competition.  The Lady Cards played to their normal form with solid back row defense led by Katie Fairbanks and front row highlight performances from Travanna Matthews, Sundara Chinn, Bri Wilson, Jade Robinson and Claire Smith.  While distributing the ball well to a host of attackers, Megan Evans also contributed to the scoreboard with an occasional dump on the Bulldogs.

Coach Clarke said after the game, "we are continuing to see improvement in the second half of the district play."

Go Cardinals!
