The Cardinals hosted Fort Bend Austin at Bellaire High for the first official match of the 2014 season.  Tuesday, August 12, the Bellaire High's gym was filled to watch the Freshman, JV and Varsity compete against the area's most competitive volleyball programs.  The first match of the year saw each team try different rotations and test players skills.

The Freshmen were first up to take on the Bulldogs from Fort Bend County.  The newest Cardinals competed hard; but, fell in two sets (17-25, 18-25).  At least four setters were asked to run the offense for Bellaire Volleyball newest team and several rotations were tested.  This Freshman team is solid and filled with athleticism.  We're proud of the competitive spirit and tenacity demonstrated by these new Lady Cardinals.  Facing an experienced Bulldog team loaded with experienced year-round players, the JV Bellaire team competed hard; but also fell in two sets (21-15, 15-25).  Our JV players played their tails off; leading on several occasions during the match.

The Bellaire Volleyball Varsity team came out with in full force taking the first set 25-14.  There was not let up in the second set; but, Fort Bend Austin responded by taking the second set in a overtime play 24-26.  In the third and fourth sets, the Cardinals were plagued with inconsistent execution which limited their own success.  Brianna Kelly led all hitters with 8 kills; but, was not enough to overcome the Bulldog's strong push at the end.  The Lady Cardinals fell to Fort Bend Austin's Bulldogs 1-3 (25-14, 24-26, 20-25, 17-25).
