Last week, when the Lady Cardinals secured their fourth undefeated District Championship, they did it with one of their best players standing on the sideline.  This wasn't new.  It happened last year too. And the year before last.  And the year before that.  Over the last four seasons where the Lady Cardinals racked up win after win, the player who participated in nearly all the practices and never hit the court in a single match, Jason Gibbs finally got what many of the best volleyball will never have.

After winning his second USA Volleyball High Performance Beach Volleyball National Championship over the summer, Bellaire High senior Jason Gibbs was chosen for USA Volleyball Magazine's fall cover.  Jason is an outstanding beach and indoor volleyball player.  His volleyball talent extends to the indoor court as well.  Jason has played for championship indoor club team earning a USA Volleyball National Championship.  "He has been an important member of our volleyball program for all four years he's been at Bellaire High and significant contributor to the varsity team" said Coach Clarke."

In his senior year, we are finally getting a chance to see Jason Gibbs on a volleyball court; although it's one made of sand. Jason is on the cover of Volleyball USA, the Official Magazine of  USA Volleyball.  Jason has distinguished himself as one of the top mens beach volleyball players in the United States.  Jason Gibbs, with his partner Dane Johnson, won gold metals at the 2017 US high-performance beach 18u championship in July.  A year before, Jason and Dane won gold metals in the 2016 US High-Performance beach 17u Championships.

Last week, Jason signed with Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois to play volleyball.  In a interesting twist of fate, Jason was playing in an AVP beach qualifying tournament where he, by chance, competed against a team which included Lewis University volleyball coaches.  Obviously, Jason impressed his opponents. Soon after, long time Lewis head coach Dan Friend offered Gibbs an opportunity to become a Flyer.   Jason plans to study Sports Managment at Lewis University.

Bellaire is extremely proud of Jason and will watch him fulfill his potential in the coming years.
